The Postgraduate Programs at Cinvestav Irapuato (Irapuato Unit and Advanced Genomics Unit) invite graduates of programs related to biology, biotechnology, agronomy, genomics, ecology and related disciplines to participate in the selection process to enter the Master’s Program in Plant Biotechnology, Master’s Program in Integrative Biology, Doctoral Program in Plant Biotechnology, and Doctoral Program in Integrative Biology.

Invited talk at the XXI SMB Plant Biology Congress, Merida
On Wednesday, October 22, Dr Naveenkumar Athiyannan from the Irapuato Unit of Cinvestav presented his research findings entitled “A tandem kinase fusion protein in Aegilops tauschii confers wheat leaf rust resistance” at the XXI SMB Plant Biology Congress & 4th ASPB Mexico Section Meeting held in Merida, Mexico.
Seminario: “Harnessing genomic innovations to clone wheat rust resistance genes”
On Tuesday, October 7, Dr Naveenkumar Athiyannan from the Irapuato Unit of Cinvestav gave a seminar entitled “Harnessing genomic innovations to clone wheat rust resistance genes” as part of the Science Innovations Seminar Series.
On this occasion, the UI’s Evolutionary Genomics Laboratory, headed by our director, Dr Luis Delaye Arredondo, hosted the seminar.
CIMMYT Global wheat programs Field day 2025

On the invitation from the CIMMYT global wheat program, Dr Naveenkumar Athiyannan from Cinvestav Irapuato Unit attended the field day “From Genes to Impact: Accelerating Wheat Disease Resistance and Climate Resilience” at the Toluca research station, located at Camino a Chapultepec in the State of Mexico.
During the visit, Dr Athiyannan interacted with eminent wheat pathologists and breeders such as Dr Ravi Singh and Dr Velu Govindan, as well as global wheat scientists who were present on the day.
